Policy Statement Purpose and Objective

The Armstrong County Sportsmen and Conservation League is a county wide organization comprised of conservation and sportsmen clubs. Joined in a common cause to protect our constitutional rights to keep and bear arms and ensure the wise use of our natural resources. The league is made up of hunters, anglers, trappers, farmers, hikers, campers, and people who just enjoys the out-of-doors

As conservationists we believe in the wise use of our natural resources. We believe that we can and should use our natural resources, but we should do so in such a manner that we do not, contaminate the water we drink or pollute the air we breath or ravage the land we live on. We affirm the right to hunt, fish and trap both as a recreational sport and as a sound and proven wildlife management practice. The league co-operates with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

The Armstrong County Sportsmen and Conservation League strongly supports the second amendment of the Constitution of the United States. To ensure, the rights of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed on. We believe that all law abiding citizens should be able to own firearms. We support the enforcement of those gun laws within the sponsors criminal justice system targeted at the criminal. We favor effective crime control measures, but oppose additional gun control laws that have little or no impact on the criminal, but instead hamper and harass honest citizens.

Gun Control Statement

The Armstrong County Sportsmen and Conservation League, The South west Division  and the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen Clubs have adopted the following gun control statement.

We believe it is time that the sportsmen of Pennsylvania and of the United States of America need to take a stand on all the violence that is occurring in our schools. Our children are being exposed to a lack of morality that will lead us to the demise of our country. Issues of firearms control do not address the problem, it is only a symptom of the disease. The real problem is lack of respect for authority. We do not need more laws we need the laws be have reformed. Make our laws have meaning by granting uniformity of interpretation and punishment -(Lets not confuse abuse with discipline.)

Does a child of 6 years have the ability to know acceptable social behavior? Can a child separate violence on TV from real life? We believe not. By allowing uncensored video and internet exposure a child experiences life's violence without proper guidance. By letting our children be exposed to these tragedies of our society we have perpetrated the moral degeneration of our country.

The League has several activities it sponsors

Global warming

There is no doubt that science has proven that the climate is getting warmer, but it is my opinion that we should go slow on any decisions we make on what we should do about it.

Pennsylvania has a huge coal reserve and depends on it for the good of the State's economy. To shut down all of the coal-fired electric generation plants would jeopardize the livelihoods of many Pennsylvanians. The auto industry is already suffering and maybe because of the restrictions put on it, in the name of Global warming,

Science has also proven hat people have been on the Earth through several periods of cooling and warming. The Country of Greenland once was farmed and that is how it got its name. Then, along came the Ice Age from which we are now emerging. It appears to me that the so-called man made global warming is part of a natural phenomenon and as always, the human race has in the past and will in the future adapt to these changes.

we as people need to be very careful that we are not wasteful and do what we can do to aid environment, but let us be aware of the quality of life we may destroy quicker than global warming will.

Through the ages, deserts have turned into grassy plains and grassy plains have turned to deserts; oceans to dry land and dry land to oceans. One week of a n eruption of one of the large volcanoes will put more carbon doxide in the air than Man has for centuries.

The following is the essay submitted Shana Kilgore

Experts throughout the world do not agree on the Global Warming issue. Should we be concerned about Global Warming

Global Warning is defined as an increase in the Earth's average atmospheric temperature that could cause corresponding changes in climate that may result from the "greenhouse effect". This "greenhouse effect" occurs when the Earth's atmosphire withholds greenhouse gases, such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane, close to its surface. Because of these gases accumulating, the sun's heat is continuously being trapped below the atmosphere, which is causing negative effects on our climates and ecosystems.

Industrialization, deforestation, and pollution have all been to blame for this accumulation over the past 100 years. Industrialization and pollution are directly affecting the Earth's atmosphere make-up by releasing harmful greenhouse gases produced by the Automobiles and machinery that we rely on every day. Deforestation also indirectly increases the effedt of global warming. By cutting down thousand of trees, whether to supply material for new homes, for expansion ,or for development, we are eliminating an important method of greenhouse gas reduction. Trees and plants naturally absorb the greenhouse gases, using them to produce energy while releasing oxygen. By cutting down the major method of reducing these harmful gases, we are inviting the level to spike even  higher in the atmosphere.

Since 1880, our average temperatures have climed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit. While seemingly a small number, this is actually a large change when concerning environmental elements and ecosystems. Glaciers and mountain have begun rapidly melting; decreasing the amount of snow and ice native animals require to survive while increasin sea level . Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, a drastic change compared to 150 in 1910.

If we don't try as a nation to reduce our greenhouse gas emission, it could spell disaster for our world. Various studies have projected many catastrophes, such as rises in sea level, rises in temperatures, and an increased number of tropical storms. Global warming is a growing concern that will only continue to grow until we begin to make a difference. By taking a interest today, we have a opportunity to reduce and even stop it.

Banquet

The league sponsors a banquet each year usually in the early spring. The past few years it has been held at the Kittanning Twp. Fire Hall.
