My goal for this rebuild was to put together a solid, daily driven street engine focusing on reliability, low end torque, good idle, and reasonable gas mileage.  

This combination gives great performance with good street manners and 18/21 mpg as well.

  • 1966 289 Block +.040
  • K-B hypereutectic flat-top pistons, ~10:1 compression
  • 1966 closed chamber heads, hardened seats, 54cc chambers,  1.67 intake/1.45 exhaust      
  • Crane Powermax H-260-2 cam/lifters/springs.           (.456/.484 lift 204/216 @.050 duration)
  • Comp Cams Magnum roller tip steel rockers
  • 1966 4-bbl stock iron intake
  • 600 cfm Edelbrock carb
  • MSD 6A ignition with Blaster2 coil triggered by a recurved points distributor
  • Thorley tri-y headers, H-pipe, Borla turbos, 2 1/4" pipe
  • Centerforce Gold clutch & disk
  • Griffin aluminum radiator and Flex-a-lite 1300 fan
