Hose Company No. 1 was known as the Hook and
Ladder Company.
It was equipped with a hose cart and a hook and ladder wagon which
was stored in the municipal building located on South Second Street.
The Apollo No. 1 Building was erected in 1895.

Apollo Hose Company No.
3, known as the Oak Hill Fire Department began in 1898. Hose
Company No. 3 is the oldest fire department in town, originating
in the Oak Hill District. The first building, built in 1907,
was located on North Fifth Street. The building housed the
companies two wheel hose cart.

In 1915, a second building was
built on North Fifth Street. The building was torn down in 1963.
Today, the lot is used for parking for the current firehall.

In 1962, Apollo Hose Company
No.3 purchased a vacant lot across from the fire hall on North
Fifth Street and built a new $45,000 building which is still
in use today.

In 1937, the department
organized a Drum and Bugle Corp., called "The Men in
Maroon." The group attened parades and performance exhibitions
and won many prizes in strong competition. The Drum and Bugle
Corp disbanded in 1954.
