Sparky Wins Bax Seat Award by Robert Goyer (Flying Magazine 11/2006)
"At
AirVenture the EAA presented aviation writer Sparky Barnes Sargent
with its EAA-Flying Bax Seat Award, awarded annually to an aviation
journalist whose work embodies the spirit of longtime Flying
columnist Gordon Baxter. Senior Editor Robert Goyer presented Sparky
with the trophy at the event. For three decades Baxter made his
loyal readers smile, laugh and fall in love with aviation all over
again, and Sparky fits the mold to a T. She's not only a writer,
she's an accomplished pilot and a builder. ... Several years ago
Sparky rebuilt the Vagabond from the ground up. She eventually wrote
a master's theses, as well as several articles in the aviation
press, about the project. Sparky has written for Southern
Aviator, General Aviation News, Vintage Airplane, Custom Planes
and Private Pilot. Congratulations, Sparky."
