|
For many, the Napa Valley has come to symbolize the incredible fruitfulness of the good earth that God created. With its radiant sunshine, cooling morning mists, fertile land, and abundant annual harvest of grapes, this cloistered valley truly is a piece of paradise. When Jesus performed his first miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding feast in Cana of Galilee, he clearly was celebrating the overflowing of God's blessings for those who commit their needs to Him. God is truly the giver of all good gifts, and the natural process of growth and harvest each year throughout the globe testifies to this. |

This painting is a romantic love sonnet about the charms of the autumn season; the cooling moisture of rains and mist and the occasional scent of burning leaves. |

America's Pride, the first piece in my new 'Flags Over America' collection, features the same dramatic sky and waving flag seen in my previous painting, while below I pay tribute to the most patriotic of all American cities - our nation's capitol. |
|
|
I've chosen to re-visit a favorite artistic place in "Blessings
of Christmas", which takes a fresh look at the charming cottage of
"Home Is Where The Heart Is II" in its evergreen bower, but now in the
snowy grip of winter. |

The BRIDGE OF HOPE is as stable as the massive granite flagstones that form its arch and will stand for as long as the quicksilver brook rolls down from the hills beneath it. A magnificent white dogwood, symbol of the purity of God's grace, shades the bridge. Its over-arching boughs remind us that, while we stand on the BRIDGE OF HOPE, we are enshrouded by the loving embrace of our creator. |

Boston Celebration Available in 18 x 24 *NEW* ![]() |
In Boston Celebration I return to a favorite subject at a different time of day and year. I first painted historic Boston Commons fourteen years ago on a damp fall afternoon. Now, I follow that collector favorite with Boston Celebration, meant to evoke the thrilling days following the Patriot's 2005 Super Bowl triumph which came on the heels of the curse-breaking Red Sox World Series. Flags celebrating the champions festoon the square; blazing lights seem to herald the exciting moment; the glowing façade of Park Street Church looms like a victory torch. |

The Kinkade family delights in travel. One of our recurring discoveries is Charleston, South Carolina, where the heart of the Old South lives on. The feeling that I get when I visit Charleston is nostalgic, romantic, as if I had somehow stepped back in time. So, as I worked on my studio treatment of Charleston, Sunset on Rainbow Row, I've filled my streets with vintage cars and passersby wearing simple yet timeless garb. Step aboard the horse-drawn carriage for a leisurely visit to Rainbow Row! |

| Christmas Evening
Available in 18 x 24 *NEW* ![]() |
In Christmas Evening I return to the cottage that is the centerpiece of "A Quiet Evening" - the thatch-roofed hutch many collectors have told me is their favorite Kinkade home. It is the evening before Christmas day, and the joyous symbols of the season abound. The cozy cottage is festooned with Christmas lights; a wreath is hung on the door; a previously unseen gas lamp heralds visitors from across the icy stream. Perhaps you can even imagine children gathered around the tree, singing Christmas carols while the family prepares to savor a lovingly prepared meal. Surely the Christmas spirit is alive within these stone walls. |
|
Chicago's Water Tower looms like a nostalgic monument from an
ancient age. Indeed, the limestone and concrete tower, built in 1869 to
resemble a Gothic castle from a much more distant time, is one of the
very few standing survivors of the great Chicago fire. |

|
For me the romance of San Francisco begins at Fisherman's Wharf. The Golden Gate Bridge stands as a welcoming sentinel, while the sunset bathes the fog shrouded air and glistens on the moist pavement. Aficionados of San Francisco will note my many romantic touches: replacing the contemporary wharf electric trolleys with the more colorful and nostalgic cable cars, clearing away some of the fisherman's shacks along Scoma's pier to allow a less interrupted view of the famous Golden Gate, dressing the scene with an uninterrupted flow of vintage vehicles. On the top floor of famous Castagnola's restaurant, I even included a depiction of myself as a little boy looking out in awe at the distant bay as a fog shrouded ship departs for points unknown. Perhaps the romance of the City by the Bay, at least for me, began in childhood with such whimsical daydreams.

"Cobblestone Mill" is a symbol of the natural
abundance. The mill wheel will turn for as long as the stream that
powers it will flow, grinding the flour that sustains a simple,
satisfying village life. The mill stands alone, yet it is enlivened by
a dazzling play of light and shade that falls on it from the flowering
woods that embrace its solitude. Its dignity is enhanced by the dance
of color that so delights the eye. Beauty - and all else that is good -
is a gift of light, bestowed by the sun, which also grows the grain
that will be ground in this millstone. |

Courage ![]() |
In
Courage I use a vocabulary of personal artistic symbols to
convey this message: God rewards our perseverance with His gift of
courage. A storm-tossed sailboat has come within sight of a lighthouse;
the beacon of divine love will guide it to shore. A sublime radiance
breaks through the clouds, embracing the boat in its holy light. I painted Courage at a time when I was especially grateful for God's hand of deliverance in my life. May it remind you that courage is, truly, a gift from the Almighty.

Dogwood Chapel ![]() |
There are places where the bounty of God's creation shines forth with such radiance that the humble heart is moved to express its gratitude in prayer. Dogwood Chapel portrays just such a spiritual jewel within a setting of breathtaking natural beauty. A graceful footpath leads us to the door of a modest chapel, lodged within the shade of an overarching, flowering dogwood tree. Whether or not we know the legend of the dogwood, we cannot help but recognize that this tree with its lavish white blossoms is a sign of God's sheltering grace, and His abiding gift of love. |
|
Garden of Grace ![]() |
"Amazing
Grace, how sweet the sound ..." How sweet, too, are the sights that await us in the "Garden of Grace." And the scents. I think of a melodious harmony of bird song, of the heady perfume of flowers wafted on the breeze. Above all, I imagine a glorious light that pours through the foliage, clothing the trees and shrubs in its resplendent radiance. What can lie beyond the aged, wrought iron gate that opens into the "Garden of Grace?" Surely, abundant blessings and God's tender mercies await. |
|
Garden
of Hope ![]() |
Hope
is the great gift of a loving God. In The Garden of Hope,
second in my Gardens of Light collection, I celebrate the bountiful
blessing that is a hopeful spirit. Radiance bathes a garden in the
woods, pouring down in a flood of light upon an ancient stone urn that
is a vessel of hope The deeply mysterious relationship between hope and sacrifice is expressed in the symbolism of the urn. Central is the Roman cross, bearing the visages of Mary and Jesus. A magnificent spray of flowers bursts forth from the urn. Surely, The Garden of Hope is a garden lavish with new beginnings. |

Glory
of Winter ![]() |
This is the thrilling view of Bridal Veil Falls, thundering at the head of a Yosemite Valley blanketed in snow and blessed by an unaccustomed solitude. A brilliant beam of sunlight has broken through the clouds, illuminating the distant falls and mountains as if in a spotlight. |

Good
Life ![]() |
In The Good Life, third and final piece in my Beginning of a Perfect Evening collection, I have in effect set up my easel in that imagined space where God's bounty is manifest. I identify with the fisherman, who lives in a profound harmony with nature and receives its gifts with humble gratitude. Towering peaks embrace the valley. I imagine that my wife and daughters are safely tucked away within, enjoying the pleasures of domesticity, as they await my return with the evening catch. Alone with my family, safe, peacefully savoring the glories of God's creation - that is my image of The Good Life. I invite you to enjoy it with me. |

Guiding
Light |
"Some
believe that artists are touched by a spark of divine fire. I
have always felt that true inspiration is a gift from our Creator, and
have often heard stories from collectors who have found renewed
strength, hope or comfort from something I have created. In that sense
perhaps all artists, whether musician, painter, or poet can at times be
a vessel of God’s profound mercy and love. If this is true, then
inspiration can be thought of as both spiritual and deeply human. The
Guiding Light, first in my Lights of Inspiration series, speaks to the
dual nature of inspiration. This brilliant sunset penetrates the
swirling storms that sometimes afflict our soul, reminding us that the
deep emotions of hope and faith are a truer reflection of our spiritual
nature than any doubt or turmoil can be. This radiant light works in
concert with the towering clouds to create a sunset that is among the
most luminous and dramatic I have ever attempted to capture on canvas.
The Guiding Light introduces a compositional format that is new for me.
The long, narrow canvas is perfect for those settings in the home that call for a panoramic vision. As I worked, I envisioned this handsome piece over a comfortable sofa or above a rustic fireplace or in some other special setting. Surely, this dramatic panorama might carry the viewer’s imagination to sweeping distant vistas. The low horizon line also allows me to accentuate the drama of the sunset above. Certainly the one word I would use to summarize my newest work would be: inspiration!" |

Heading Home ![]() |
The
soldier is alone ... as he is never alone in battle. The weight of all he has seen and done, of the pain he has borne and the trials he has overcome bear down on his broad shoulders. The soldier's personal war is over: he is Heading Home. I did not choose to show the warrior's face in my painting of the homecoming veteran. The hero of Heading Home is not an individual at all; he is the essence of the American soldier. We cannot tell whether he returns from Normandy, from Saigon, from Beirut. In a sense, he has spilled his blood on all those fields of honor. Like all of us, the soldier walks the path of his life and finds himself under God's watchful eye, alone. He is bathed in a golden light that can only be called "heavenly." Like all God's children, his ultimate destination is a heavenly home, where he can know the sweet peace of divine love. We cannot know whether he is Heading Home to hearth and family, to the pleasures of domestic love and a joyful reunion, or whether he may be returning instead to the bliss of heaven, which is the perfection of those earthly pleasures. We can only wish him a joyful homecoming, and say a sublime word of thanks to the hero's of every generation! |

Lilac Bouquet ![]() |
Rarely
do I narrow my focus to still life, in essence bringing the
glory of nature indoors. My challenge in Lilac Bouquet is to convey the
sensual experience of the garden in my portrayal of this lavish
bouquet. I want my viewers to delight at the delicate contrast of
mauves and purples, to sense the rich perfume of lilacs wafting on the
breeze, to imagine the buzz of bees hovering about the flowers. Lilac Bouquet extends my celebration of this regal and fragrant shrub; it is, in effect, a companion to Lilac Gazebo. |
| Living
Waters - Golfer's Paradise, Hole One Available in 18 x 24 *New* ![]() |
"If
there were a golf course in Heaven ..." Like many people of faith, I have often contemplated the glories of heaven. Christ said he would prepare a mansion for us - could he also prepare a divine garden setting where in we might pursue a recreational game or two? (Or two or three thousand?) Imagine the possibilities: not a care to interrupt the stroll through the verdant grounds, not a deadline to interfere, not an interruption to beckon. Bliss, pure and simple, and a fragrant walk through the morning light as one pursues the perfect round. -See you on the links! |
| London Available in 18 x 24 *New* ![]() |
London
is the rarest of contemporary cities - at once rich with picturesque
landmarks and invigorated by modern energies. I set up my easel at just
this spot to capture its two faces. I painted within the shadows of
Westminster Bridge, ancient and massive, while a regal sunset
illuminated the reflections of the House of Parliament and the Tower of
Big Ben in the silvery water of the Thames. I had some fun with the river, hiding the periscope of a vintage submarine in its depths, and a bobbing bottle, perhaps containing a love note to my wife Nanette. |

Main Street! These are the places where people gather to do their business and share the activities of a more simple era, I hope you'll meet me on Main Street! |

Main
Street Courthouse ![]() |
Main Street, a place we, as children, would go to on Saturdays aboard bicycles that nearly flew as we pedaled down the dusty city streets towards our destination. |

Main

Main Street was for me a dreamy, idyllic destination like some foreign country that one reads of and thinks of often, but rarely gets to visit. |

Make
a Wish Cottage ![]() |
As the father of four daughters, I know that nothing is more precious than the dreams of young girls. My girls - like yours - wish for many things: from a new doll or dress to a soccer goal. But most of all they dream of love and of the soul mate in whose eyes love will be reflected. How sweet it is to imagine the wishes that children, and especially little girls, have whispered into the mossy depths of this old wishing well. For all the children who dare to dream, I've created Make a Wish Cottage, a sanctuary where dreams can come true. I believe in the power of dreams. After all, I met the girl of my dreams as a young boy barely into his teens, and my Nanette has taught me to believe in happy endings. Like Make a Wish Cottage, the home we have created together is lit by the light of love. The gardens here are lavish with flowers; bowers of red climbing roses encircle the thatched roof like a crown. The stream that flows beside the cottage and feeds the well symbolizes God's abundant blessings. I'm especially fond of the network of mossy cracks in the flagstone walkway; they recall the pattern of the walk leading to my own studio. God's glorious sunset reflects subtly in the damp surface of the stony path. |

New York, Fifth Avenue ![]() |
Now, more than ever, New York is America's city - a symbol of our indomitable spirit, our energy, our roots in a proud past, our confidence in the future. Is there any place in this fair land that better symbolizes the glamour and drama of American life than New York, 5th Avenue. |

Night
Before Christmas ![]() |
I
painted a home that could have been the setting for Clement Moore's
unforgettable poem earlier in my career. It is the centerpiece of
Victorian Garden II, where it sits in a sylvan spring garden, embraced
by lavish, dew-drenched blossoms. The Night Before Christmas revisits the stately mansion, while the change of season works a dramatic transformation of the scene. Snow shrouds the foliage, replacing the gemlike dazzle of flowers in the earlier piece with a tapestry woven in shade of white. The lamp is festooned with wreath and bow, a sled stands ready-to-ride on the picket fence, a jaunty snowman greets guests. |

Old Fishin' Hole ![]() |
Now
I celebrate my own very personal childhood memories with THE OLD
FISHIN' HOLE. As the first in a new series, this is a historic and
much anticipated issue. But the reception I anticipate for THE OLD
FISHIN' HOLE stems from something more basic than that. This
idyllic image of childhood reminds us of the simple pleasures of a
summer day. Fishing was one of our summer pastimes, and we all had our favorite fishing holes. Covered bridges like this one were rarities in the Sierra foothills, but it seemed, at least in our boyhood imaginings, that big trout gathered in the shadowy depths under those dramatic old bridges. The morning sun dapples the scene in the radiant light of memory. |

San Francisco Fisherman's Warf ![]() |
A luminous sunset shrouds Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco in a golden glow. Quaint fishing boats of all descriptions sleep quietly at their moorings, and overhead seagulls soar in the brisk sea air. What an enchanting location! |
| On a
trip to Salt Lake City many
years ago I was enamored with the lingering
effects of dusk on the distant mountains and the
way in which the lights of the city began to
twinkle as the shadows of the mountains enveloped
the skyline. I decided then and there to attempt
to capture the city when the timing was right. And now the timing is
perfect! As I worked on Salt Lake: City of Lights, I constantly balanced the desire to infuse the historic details of the city (for example the towering capitol building at the far left and the famous tabernacle and temple of the Mormon Church in the right middle) with touches of the newer buildings and skyline. Here truly is a historic city that shines like a jewel in the desert. |

Seaside
Hideaway ![]() |
Seaside Hideaway evokes the mood of rapture we feel at such times. This is a glorious sunset; spray from the breaking waves drenches the air with mist, and a radiant light bathes clouds and swells with its golden glow, until the eye can scarcely tell where sky ends and sea begins. The towering, wispy clouds resemble angels in the searchlight of God's grace; gulls fly up toward the heavenly light. |
| Stillwater Cottage Available in 18 x 24 *New* ![]() |
Stillwater
Cottage, which introduces my new Peaceful Cottages series, is, in a
sense, the companion piece to a painting I did years ago entitled
"Beside Still Waters". I wanted Stillwater Cottageto come alive for you as a place of refuge. The light pouring from the windows suggests that a family dwells at peace within. Carefully observed details - the weathered brass bell over the door, the ancient stone bench with an open family bible awaiting moments of quiet study, and the graceful gliding swans - give this cottage character. The rich colors of sunset bathe the glade and the distant trees in glorious light. Here God's perfect peace reigns. |
| Sunset on Lamplight
Lane Available in 24 x 36 *New* ![]() |
"My
art keeps me young. The joy of creation is invigorating; I approach
each new canvas with the same enthusiasm, the same expectancy, the same
curiosity that I brought at the start of my career. The reality of
time’s passage has been clarified for me with Sunset on Lamplight Lane,
my return to a favorite subject of my youth. When Merritt and Chandler,
my oldest girls, were tiny children, Nanette, the girls and I spent a
blissful time exploring the English Cotswolds.
The Lamplight Lane series, which followed the imaginary Brook Windermere as it wound through a romantic lamp lit village, was perhaps my most popular celebration of the charms of rural England. My oldest, Merritt, was five when I painted Lamplight Lane; soon she’ll be a high school graduate. I thought I would celebrate her life changes by returning one last time to Lamplight Lane, which centers upon the cobblestone bridge that is itself a symbol of transition. I even included a small rowing skiff, named “Miss Merritt”, to symbolize the journey into life that all of us embark upon. As I worked on the piece, I constantly searched my archives to make sure that each cottage is both authentic and unique. Sunset on Lamplight Lane refers both to the radiant sunset that bathes the village in myriad reflections, and to the completion of the final work in an epic series of paintings." |

Sweetheart
Gazebo ![]() |
For me, "Sweetheart Gazebo" is a modest palace of love. At once intimate and expansive, private and open, this most romantic shelter presents an image of the dual nature of love. Like the gazebo, love is private, comfortable, comforting; at the same time, love embraces the world and opens to its beauties. The image of romance would not be complete without a reminder of God's grace, which is the foundation on which all human love rests. The stream brings the gift of pure water to the garden, just as divine love nourishes the loving heart. |

Towne Square ![]() |
Most of our lives are lived in the company of friends and neighbors. There is a pleasure to cities and to rural retreats, but no habitation seems quite so comfortable to me as the Town Square. |
| Victorian
Autumn Available in 18 x 27 *NEW* ![]() |
My Victorian Autumn, the fourth seasonal addition to my series of idyllic family retreats, visits an imposing Victorian mansion in the fall of the year. Light pours through the rectangular windows, providing a glimpse of the comfortable family life unfolding within. The change of seasons is well underway, and nature is blessed by an abundance of color. The near foliage is lavish with the last blossoms of summer, the reds, pinks, blues, and purples of a floral bouquet, while the trees have already begun to flame red and gold with the vibrant hues of autumn. |
| Yosemite
Valley: Late Afternoon Light of Artist Point Available in 18 x 24 ![]() |
This painting depicts the Yosemite Valley as seen from a little known place called 'Artist's Point', named in tribute to the many 19th century artists who favored it as a sketching ground. In 1989, the National Park System selected Yosemite Valley as their official print. |
