PAUL'S CARVINGS

Below are some of my carvings. I put this page back on the website because a lot of folks ask me what I carve. I enjoy carving from roughouts that others have designed. I occasionally design one myself. Some are used for teaching, but all are fun to carve. You may notice that I like designs by Gerald Sears, Dallas Deege and Mike Shipley. Gerald and Dallas are my favorite carving instructors.

Meanwhile, I got another one painted. Jasper is also a Gerald Sears design. I carved it in 03, and just got around to painting it. Nothing slow about me.

These three carvings are from Mike Shipley's collection. I carved Pa Bear with Mike in a class at Bull Shoals. The class was held at Wishes & Fishes in Bull Shoals, Arkansas.

The angel is Herby Ham's design. I have added it to the roughout selection I sell at White River Crafts. I now have a roughout for a large 9 1/4" angel. The Dogwood is a flower design that I carved for fun. I like to do shallow relief carving now and then..

This buzzard is like the one I carved for John Choate. I just wanted one for my carving shelf. Don't know who designed it, I saw a picture in a book somewhere.

Donkey

DONKEY
Carved from a band sawn blank. The donkey was designed by Herby Ham.

BARN OWL CARICATURE
Carved from a block of bass wood. The idea was from a picture Paul saw somewhere.

St. Nick

OLD ST. NICHOLAS
Carved from a block of bass wood. The design is from "Hand Carving Snowmen and Santas" by Mike Shipley.

Make My Day

MAKE MY DAY
Carved from a roughout from Rossiters' collection. This old gunfighter is my favorite carving. Maybe I have read too many westerns! The Designer is Chris Hammack.

HAND AND CROSS
Carved from a roughout made from my original carving. The idea came from seeing various pictures of hands holding crosses.

PANCHO VILLA
Carved from a roughout from Dallas Deege's collection.

OLD SEA CAPTAIN
Carved from a roughout from Gerald Sears collection.

SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS
Carved from band sawn blanks, Paul's design.

CHILI
Carved from a roughout from Gerald Sears collection.

BREWSTER
Carved from a roughout from Gerald Sears collection.

This is the cross I intend to add to my line of christian roughouts. It is 6" x 9" x 3/4" thick. This is just the first of several that I have planned. The flower layout is my design. The crosses are easy to make on the band saw using stops to control the cutting lengths. That way, the cross always comes out symmetrical.
