USE YOUR COMPUTER'S "SPARE" POWER TO
HELP THE WORLD WITH MEDICAL RESEARCH!
The life that your computer can help save just might be the life of someone you love.

Do you really care about people suffering from AIDS, Alzheimer's, childhood diseases, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, flu, malaria, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, leukemia, lupus, lyme disease, Parkinson's, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), or many other illnesses? Diseases of every nature are everyone's problem whether you know someone who is sick or not, ... and chances are great that you or someone you love either has or will be affected by one. Now you can help do something about it by donating your computer's spare power, that is now being wasted, to the WCG (World Community Grid) -- an IBM project for medical research -- and it won't take much more than a few minutes of your time to get started. The WCG is non-profit and supported by many of the world's most reputable institutions including the American Cancer Society, United Way, the Mayo Clinic, the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and many others. Most of the time computers use only 5% to 10% of their power cycles and the rest are just wasted, ... so why not put them to good use by joining a grid computing network to benefit all of mankind. Also known as "distributed computing", grid computing is a very legitimate, proven concept, which has been in use for over ten years and is supported by many large corporations, colleges, universities, grammar/high schools, and even the Boy Scouts and the city government of Austin, Texas. Many are actually partners with the WCG. If skeptical, do a web-search for "grid computing" or "distributed computing" and you will find all sorts of articles to assure yourself of the safety and merits of these projects; these articles from ComputerWorld, the New York TimesPC World, USA Today, and PC World (2nd article) explain grid computing, the WCG, and IBM's involvement. The New York Times has a second article about a new WCG project: the hunt for super rice -- something crucial for today's growing food shortages. Please take the time to play the short informative videos and podcasts below and on the right to find out how safely and securely you can help the world.

The
WCG has now completed over 324,000 YEARS of medical research, but more time and help are needed.

The above video interview of IBM Vice-President Stanley S. Litow
and United Nations Deputy Director Liga Elizondo was conducted by Heather Harrison in 2004; if you haven't viewed it yet, I highly recommend it.  Here are five more informative videos -- news about Rice University and WCG, news about Washington University and WCG, a general news report, an IBM Representative at a Convention, and video by a WCG member.  And here is an excellent podcast by Dr. David Foran, professor and lead researcher at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, as well as a podcast by IBM explaining 'How It Works' (and here is IBM's webpage to show 'How It Works').  If you're ready to join now or just want more info, my 'Quick Guide' will help you find answers to all your questions, and you are also more than welcome to contact me -- Bill Velek.
