Cork's Place - Swede Targets

back to Cork's Place

Both of the targets on this page were shot with the same 'as issued' M96 Swedish Mauser.  I did put a new military barrel on it shortly after I got it because it would not shoot cast boolits worth a hoot.  After a year of shooting jacketed it got cleaned REALLY good (copper removal).  It now gets a steady diet of ONLY cast boolits.

With a sight adjustment, this target would easily have been a 100-someX.  Not too shabby for cast boolits.  Notice that all of the holes indicat the boolits were straight and true as they passed through (even more visible on the real paper target).

The next target below was shot on 8 September 2001 with an 'as issued' M96 Swedish Mauser, 6.5 x 55
2nd Score Target in a Military Bolt Action Match at Oil Capital Rod & Gun Club
100 yards, from the bench
Wx: 70dF, cloudy, calm

RP Brass, partial fl sized
Rem 9 1/2 primer
Hornady #2630, 140 gr SP (flat base), a hunting bullet
Hodgdon H4831SC, 43.0 gr

Score:  100-5X (I did not score it, but it looks to me like the 8 o'clock X may not be an X.  But like I said, I did not score it.)

The group size is approximately 1.7 inches.  Eeeeehaa!!!  This is one of those instances when you and a buddy walk down range, he looks at the target, then looks at you, and very quietly says, "damn nice target."
