Memories

I wish a bird could I but find,
To fly across this land of Thine
Up to the window he would fly
And on its sill, would let a sigh
He'd peck and peck to beckon Thee
His pretty breast so full of glee

Words from the heart, he'd sing right here
How much I love and miss you dear
How nights drag on, so long and weary
How days seem filled with eyes so teary
My body sags from loneliness
And craves your loving tenderness.

But alas! I know, it cannot be
There is no bird like that for me
No bird to fly cross land or sea
For Heaven holds you now, not me
And all that's left are memories!
