Intarsia by David Bochert
When I retired after teaching mathematics and computers for thirty years, I needed something to keep me busy!  I bought a scroll saw and tried my hand at Intarsia.   What is Intarsia?

Well . . . try this.  Think of a child's coloring book.  Instead of grabbing a crayola and trying to stay within the lines,  cut each part of the picture from wood.  Choose the wood according to its natural coloring and grain.  There is redheart wood from South America for red; wenge from Africa for black; walnut for brown, basswood for white, etc.
After each piece is cut and sanded to fit, coat with a clear hand rubbed varnish to protect and bring out the beauty of the wood, then glue all the pieces together to form the picture, like Pelican Pete here.
Come in!   Please excuse the saw dust.
