Upon visiting my local Ty retailer today, I was happy to find all three of the new Plush Bears just released August 31st - Bluebeary, Purplebeary, and Butterbeary! They ARE precious!!! ... So be on the lookout, they should be coming to a retailer near you soon!

....Just a reminder that Doodle's Contest ends Sunday, Oct. 31st, at 12:00 EST Midnight! (Halloween night!!!). The winners will be notified by email on Nov. 5th and announced on the site as soon as confirmation is received. Beanies-UK has received the following information from a Ty source: "The retirements between now and Dec 31st, will be made as and when stocks run out at each TY warehouse (Europe, US, Canadian) - this is to ensure no stock is left except those beanie babies on the shelves in retailers. ... The Big Announcement: Update!
Beanies-UK had earlier received information of a BIG announcement to take place today! They have since been "re-informed" that there may be a possible delay to this announcement. They have stated that due to the fact that so many websites/mailing lists are reporting on this, it is highly possible that Ty will delay the announcement. We all know there will be an announcement - when the "tyme" is right!

(I checked on my order, which was placed on August 15th, and was told it was "in the system and still within the 8-12 week fulfillment time". ... Website for Ty Retailers Found!
On May 25, 1999, the domain, tyretailers.com, was acquired by Ty Inc. It appears that Ty retailers will be able to check the status of their orders online and/or place their orders online. Doug of Fort Worth, Texas observed a minor design change on the Gobbles Buddy. Ty has now tacked his tail feathers to the body so his plumage no longer droops making for what Doug says is a better looking Gobbles.

Maple, the Beanie Buddy, has finally begun to appear at retail! The poem states:

A reliable source has confirmed that the Ty® Inc. vs. Salvino's Lawsuit was settled. No dollar amount was attached to this confirmation, so the figure ($5.3 million settlement) printed earlier could quite possibly be the correct amount.

Canadian News .....
Amidst rumors of a newly forged association between Canadian Tire Corp. and Ty® Canada, Mary Beth's Bean Bag World has obtained exclusive confirmation denying the affiliation.

"Canadian Tire is definitely not one of Ty Canada's accounts, " explained Bill Harlow, Ty Canada's Vice-President. "If Beanie Babies® do begin showing up in their (Canadian Tire's) stores, then they must've come from the gray market."

Well, Tyra wasn't out very long (in fact, she hasn't even shown up in the stores). Today, Ty announced her retirement!!! ... MBBBW reports that "the unconfirmed rumor is that it was pulled due to safety problems. Some have speculated that the pom-poms may be a problem for small children."

Smart Collecting has informed us of the following:
"Ty reps have begun to ask retailers for their email addresses, sales reps have been fired and Ty Inc. currently holds the domain www.tytrade.com. And now Smart Collecting has just received the following anonymous report that may indicate what all of these things add up to. "I was on the phone with an Official Ty distributor store in Nebraska. They told me that Ty is changing everything so that they must start ordering all their Ty products over the Internet." It definitely looks like Ty is putting the "E" in Beanies."

Although word was out yesterday that the Ty vs. Salvino Bammers lawsuit had reached a settlement ( requiring Salvino Bammers to pay $5.3 million to Ty Inc. and a redesigned bear), this morning Mary Beth's Bean Bag World has reported that according to a public relations representative no settlement has been made.

... Ty Canada® Order Forms ... a Mistake!
"A special form was sent out to Ty Canada® retailers on October 8, 1999, allowing orders of 50 different retired Beanie Baby® styles -- but according to Ty Canada, the form was little more than a mistake.

According to the form, a minimum of 12 per style and a maximum of 48 can be ordered by October 18, 1999, for expected November delivery dates. The order form also states there are "no backorders" and that "quantities are limited."

News of the forms first leaked out on Monday, but Ty Canada was unavailable for comment; on Tuesday, the company told Bean Bag World that while the forms had indeed been shipped to retailers, they were incorrect. Ty seemed confused as to how or why they were sent.

In an exclusive interview with Bean Bag World, Ty Canada's Vice-President Bill Harlow commented that "the order form the accounts received recently was sent in error. This list was actually put together awhile back. It was intended for internal purposes only and should never have gone to the retailers."

Anne Nickels, spokesperson for Ty Inc. in Oakbrook, Illinois, told Bean Bag World that there would be no further shipments of these retired Beanies™."

... Ty Canada® Can Order Retired Beanies

... Ty Inc.'s Net Income Exceeds $700 Million for 1998
According to Michael W. Kanzler, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Ty Inc. the estimated 1995 revenue for Ty Inc. of a mere $1.7 million on September 2, 1999 in the L.A. Times was a "gross underestimate." Kranzler explains, "In fact, we actually paid our commissioned sales representatives an amount greater than $1.7 million for 1995." Kranzler also notes that Ty's net income for 1998 exceeded $700 million!

... Blue Face Spangle Back on Auction Block
Last month, many blue face Spangle Beanie Babies were pulled of eBay by Ty Inc. due to the fact that they were considered stolen since the Beanie had not been officially released at that time. Sellers were quick to discover that by claiming that their auctions were a pre-sale they were permitted back on eBay. Now it appears that sellers may claim that the Beanie is "in-hand" and command a higher price. A featured category auction for a mint blue face Spangle in hand closed yesterday with a high bid of $137.51. Another auction where the buyer accepted credit cards ended with a high bid of $178.50. Presell auctions ended with high bids ranging from a low of $45 to a high of $81.

... CBS News Saturday Morning
Mary Beth Staff Reporter Geoffrey was on CBS News on Saturday morning. The news featured Tony Hyman, who gave his future outlook for Beanies, stating that since Ty is going to discontinue Beanes, experts are predicting the prices will rise by not to the levels of 1998.

... MBBBW Collectibles Convention, Chicago
The Chicago Show was a great success, as reported by MBBBW! One of the items discussed at the Convention was the direct sales of Ty products to the secondary market or other retailers (trans-shipping or back-dooring). MBBBW reports: "There are a couple of ways that you can report retailers who do not follow Ty policies. One is to post a message on the Ty Talk Cyberboard Grins and Gripes section, another is to send an E-mail to Ty Inc. at namenames@tymail.com or yourfriends@tymail.com."

... Series IV Cards
Smart Collecting reports (although unconfirmed) that a retailer received Beanie Series IV collector cards. Until this is confirmed, treat this only as a rumor ... as we have also received word that one Ty retailer just received addtional Series III cards.

Several readers have inquired as to the meaning of "Trans-Shipping". It means the direct sale of a product to a secondary 'source' instead of selling the product directly from the store, usually in large quantities. Some also refer to it as selling out the "back door". (This is one reason the item(s) show up at flea markets, auctions, etc., before they even debut in a store near you.)

As a follow-up to our previous warning, we have now closed over 125 additional Hallmark franchise locations that were in violation of our policy against trans-shipping.

We will use all available resources to root out and close accounts that trans-ship. Shipping records and financial receipts create trails, and all leads will be thoroughly investigated as we continue our efforts. Accounts that want continued shipments of Ty products should think long and hard before trans-shipping.

We hope that our accounts take our warnings seriously, because we at Ty take our policy against trans-shipping seriously.

... Beanie Donation Brings Joy to St. Luke's Patients
Ty Inc. donated 5,000 Beanie Babies to St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for children hospitalized or receiving outpatient treatment. "These Beanie Babies are heaven sent," said Sally Johnson, clinical coordinator of St. Luke's emergency/outpatient department. "It's unbelievable how receptive children are to them. "Snowboy" is the name of this Beanie Buddy! The scan of the hang tag confirms the confusion of Snowboy vs Snowy. (It appears that "Snowy" is on the order form ... for retailers to order 10 of this Buddy though.)

... Holy Bears --- A new introduction release !
HolyBears, Inc. (www.holybears.com) has introduced the newest edition to their Christianity Series - Ichthus™ The Christian Fish Bear. Ichthus, which means "fish" in Greek, recognizes the ancient Christian symbol used to communicate faith. The word is also an acronym for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior".

To all direct Ty accounts that foolishly think they can trust the secondary market dealers to whom they trans-ship, you should know that these very dealers may be providing Ty with information about you, including canceled checks. Case in point - three Hallmark locations are being closed after we received evidence of trans-shipping. The secondary market dealer was kind enough to include canceled checks to the Ty account totaling nearly $10,000, as well as various invoices and other documents received from the account.

We at Ty take our policy against trans-shipping very seriously, and we are committed to the vigorous enforcement of this policy. We are not going to continue to do business with accounts who continue to violate our policy against trans-shipping. Because of ongoing investigations, we expect more stores to lose their Ty accounts because of trans-shipping within the next few weeks.

Is trans-shipping worth the risk? We bet there are three Hallmark stores
that don't think so today!!!

... New Releases in Canada
Very reliable sources indicate that Canadian retailers should be receiving first shipments of the new Beanies and Buddies within two weeks. The new Beanies are expected to arrive in prepacks of 36 per style, full range included. This is common practice for the first Canadian shipments of new products. No information was available as to the inclusion of Beanie Buddies in the prepack shipments, nor specific data on the expected release date of the Maple Buddy. Reorders are expected to fall within normal limits of 24 per Beanie style, 6 per Buddy.
