PEOPLE - FAMILY TREES
Depending how we receive information will determine how this page will look. we can, at this time, use PDF files and word / text documents. There are several FREE family tree programs such as the one as we mentioned in our original
announcement of this project.

Civil Records started in Italy in 1809. Prior to that the churches were the principal keepers of records. The earthquake of 1805 destroyed the church records in Cantalupo nel Sannio. Perhaps the Church forwarded copies of records to Naples, Rome or a diocese.. if anyone cam correct these comments please advise. Short of going to Cantalupo nel Sannio to research these civil records anyone can visit a Mormon History Center and gain access to civil records between 1809 and 1899 for births, marriages and deaths. The death records will show when a person was born, parents and birth place if not born in Cantalupo, reaching back in time as the example above. Giovanni Barbieri's Cantalupo death record in 1887 indicates that he was born in Bolzone, Italy in 1836. It also shows his parents were Vincenzo and Francesca Barbieri. All Barbieri's in Cantalupo are his descendants.
The Mormon's because of their need to know their ancestors (an interesting story), they have accumulated the largest genealogy library in the world by micro filming original records in many countries. One does NOT have to be Mormon to utilize their records. They are currently converting microfilm to digital records to be included on the internet.

My grandfather was Nicola Gaglia, he came to the USA, Anaconda Montana in the late 1800s to work in the Anaconda Smelter. He returned to Cantalupo I understand and built a new house still standing, above the village, it has a date writen into a stone of 1910. He immigrated back to Anaconda Montana, with is wife Maria, and two children Bernice and Victor about 1921.
Victor my father was (Victorio) Gaglia he was born in Cantalupo nel Sannio, I believe in the family home.
Bernice married a Martelli from Cantalupo they lived in Anaconda.
The 1910 home in Cantalupo is on Gaglia family square / family farm, 2 kilometers above the village has family members who reside there. Pasqual Gaglia, son of Giuseppe Gaglia - my grandfather Nicola's brother - and wife have a home on the compound. Pasqual's sister also lives in a house on the square. My mother died at the age of 29 when I was only 3 years old and my twin brothers Miles and Marty were only 6 months old. Miles and Marty, they were adopted and raised under the name of Casey. Marty lives in Sidney Montana, Miles is deceased.

My great grandfather Giovanni and my great grandmother Teresa (Forchione) came to America in 1890 when he sad 45.
Tersa was from Cantalupo, born approximately 1848
Also their two sons were with them… Antonio 13 (my grandfather) and Francisco 6 years old.
Francisco
went back to Cantalupo 2-3 times and brought over “cousins” I think that is
what it said on the immigration papers and the surnames were Di Re, Gaglia, and
a couple others.
