woods road to a fork where the main road goes to the left. The site of
where the old building used to be is on your left, with a large tree. Bear
right at the fork (which is nearly straight ahead). Walk 200 feet down
the trail. Turn right and walk 100 feet on a path going slightly up a hill.

William Babb, Revolutionary
Soldier (1759-1827)
Our oldest
family cemetery is located 8 1/2 miles northeast of Milledgeville, GA on
the Linton Road. The cemetery is 1/4 mile behind the locked gate next to
Tom Smith's house. William's grave marker was put in place by the Nancy
Hart Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1930. See 1929
news article. Saturday January 10, 1998 some family members spanning
3 generations cleaned the cemetery. It is approx. 35' x 40 ft in size.
6 graves were found. None except Williams are marked. We can safely assume
Henryetta Patsey Yates was buried there and can only guess that William
Babb and Martha Yates were buried there also. The other two graves remain
a mystery. Feb. 2005, some members of the Friends of Baldwin County Cemeteries,
Inc. cleaned the cemetery. Photo on the right is the result. |
