As I look in the mirror,
you look back
with a chiseled smile.
Your face never changes.
From my side, an avalanche
breaks.
I launch into explanations;
my mouth moves
but sound stands still.

Margaret Ellis Hill, a native CA girl, retired horticulturist, teacher, tailor and designer, descends from a long line of actors, musicians, artists and teachers. Her work has been featured in online e-zines, published in magazines, anthologies and has won numerous awards locally and nationally.
