Remember to test your smoke detectors and change batteries!

With the clocks "springing" forward for daylight savings time, we'd like to remind you to test all of your smoke detectors and replace the batteries in them.  A working smoke detector can save your life in the event of a fire in your house, especially while you and your family are sleeping!

Units found a water pipe leaking in the kitchen of the residence.  22 Engine returned and Salvage 22 responded non emergency back to the scene to assist with cleaning up the water condition in the kitchen with the truck mounted vac-unit.   Within 10 minutes, water was cleaned up, and 22 Salvage returned in service.  Great job to all units on scene and thanks to Station 20 for putting Salvage 22 to good use!

22 Engine assists at Arbco Industries Collapse

February 11th - Engine 22 responded at approximately 17:00 hours to assist White Valley VFD with a structural collapse at Arbco Industries on Borland Farm Road in Murrysville.  Portable 22-8 (W H Heckman), an employee of Arbco Industries, reported the collapse to fire dispatch shortly after it happened. Chief 64 arrived on the scene confirming the collapse and a possible natural gas leak.  Chief 64 quickly added Engine 22 and Truck 20 to the alarm (Special Operations 78 was already on the initial alarm).  Attack 64 took a position on side A of the structure and sent a crew to investigate the gas leak.  22 Engine arrived on scene and took a position by the hydrant at Side A of the structure and sent an interior crew of 5 to assist with investigating the structure for hazards and cause of the natural gas leak.  Crews from 22 and 64 dug out a hydrant from under heavy snow and prepared it in the event that it was needed.  Crews from 78 and 20 assisted with lighting, and interior investigation.  Crews remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half until all utilities were secured and crews released by Chief 64.

Casta Lina Court House Fire

February 8th - Early afternoon, at 14:10 Station 20 (Murrysville) structure alarm was activated for a house fire on Castalina Court.  Murrysville Police arrived on scene advising fire through the roof of a house under construction.  Truck 20 was first on scene setting up in front of the structure, followed by Engine 78 which layed 5" line from the hydrant 700 feet into the scene.  Engine 22 picked up the plug and would feed Truck 20 and send manpower to the scene.   Crews from 64, 9, and 87 would assist with manpower and 87 took rit assignment.  Chief 20 had command and ordered an exterior attack only to the well involved structure.  After the fire was knocked down, Engine 78 utilized their CAFS system to foam the structure to prevent rekindling.  Engine 22 and Salvage 22 were released from the scene after being on scene for over 5 hours.  A great job was done by all companies on scene.  Thanks to Station 63 (Claridge) for the standby and covering a flooding call on Kennedy Avenue in the Boro while 22 crews were out on the structure fire.
