From Our Pastor

One Moore Minute. . .

The Christian symbol is the most recognizable symbol around the

world. It represents Christianity, Christ’s death upon the cross and His ultimate

victory over the cross. Although it is not a pleasing symbol, we have

recognized the cross as one crucial event intentionally endured by God for humanity’s

sake. This most crucial event is the means by which God showed

His passion for us and exhibited His power to save us. There could be no

greater symbol of love and should not be a more recognizable symbol in all the

world.

But through mass marketing there is now a symbol that has even surpassed

the cross as the most recognizable symbol in all of the world. What is

it? It’s not another religious group. It’s a place where most every one of us

has eaten at some point in our lives. It is the McDonald’s arches. They have

over 32,000 restaurants in the world which market and publicize its symbol for

fast food hamburgers and fries.

Although it shouldn’t matter to us whether the cross or the arches are

the most recognizable symbols, it should matter to us what it means upon the

consciousness of the people of the world. I did not know the cross was even

the most recognizable symbol until it was pointed out to me that it had been

surpassed by McDonald’s. I will keep on believing in Jesus and I will keep on

believing that the cross is the most important symbol to the world, whether or

not it is the most recognizable. Join with me in affirming this and worshipping

God together.

In the Cross of Christ,

John
