Dreugans Molach Farm was purchased in the fall of 2002, and we
started off with a couple of holstein steers purchased from a neighbor.
We had to do something with the 10 acres of grass we now owned, so why not grow beef?

From there, we started the Scottish Highland fold in July of 2003 with our first 2 Highland ladies,
Ginger & Iris. They ended up deciding to go on a walkabout, which took about 6 weeks to
conclude...in the interim, we figured it was a good time to replace the old 2-strand barbed wire
fencing with 6 strand (3 hot) hi-tensile wire. And a GOOD solar charger.

In short order, Medb joined the small group. Two days after getting her, she gave birth
to our first calf, Seodag. A bit of a surprise, didn't think she was supposed to be due
for a couple more months. We added a young herd sire from the same fold that we got the first
ladies from. Poor Thunder, he didn't get much respect at first, being only 7 months old at the time!

Then, a couple more ladies from down in Tennessee, Rosie and Rachel.
Lastly, we picked up Brigid and Nepthys from the same place as Medb.
Morag came along 7 months after we bought her dam, Ginger.

Since then, all additions have been from the efforts of Thunder and his harem of ladies.

Most recently, we decided to change out our herd sire, Thunder.
We have kept a few of his girls, so thought it would be good to bring in a new guy.
So, Darmond was brought in from out in Virginia, for an unrelated blood line herd sire.
We are looking forward to a new crop of calves out of Darmond in the not too distant future.

Highlands have been a great learning experience for the whole family.
Thank you for stopping by!
