Our Alpacas

"Alpaca fiber is coveted by all fiber enthusiasts. It has the softness of cashmere, luster and drape of silk, warmth and loft of goose down, strength and durability of wool, and an incredible ability to accept dyes to create a multitude of magnificent hues."

Suri Alpacas demand a special place among all alpacas. They represent only 3 percent of the world population of fiber producing animals with 4,600 Suris registered in the United States. To put that into perspective, there are more than seven million horses registered in the US. They have undergone a slow dissapearance over the last 30 years through breeding with the more common Huacaya. Historically, the Suri fiber was reserved by the Incas to clothe royalty and high government officials and only certain artisans were permitted to spin and weave the Suri fiber. Today anyone can wear Suri fiber which is well suited for any garment, especially garments worn next to the skin since alpaca fiber is hypoallergenic and lanolin free. Suri fiber also has higher density and higher yield than Huacaya.
