Welcome to my C.V. / Resumé home page.  My Objective, briefly stated:

Obtain work in as professional Reference/Instruction librarian or Cataloging/Metadata Librarian in an Academic Library or Public or Special Library setting.  Hybrid professional Librarian positions (Cataloging/Metadata with secondary Reference duties) highly desired.

I am a December 2004 graduate (MLS) of the School of Library and Information Sciences at the University of North Texas.  I am a 1997 alumnus (MA) of Rice University and a 1994 alumnus (BA) of Texas A&M University.

Technical Services Librarian

October 2005 through April 2006

Jack K. Williams Library; Texas A&M University at Galveston

Galveston, Texas

 

Managed the Technical Services Department personnel and operations.  Engaged in Original and Copy Cataloging, including special materials for the Galveston Bay Information Center, and some limited serials cataloging.  Participated in Collection Development work, NACO training sponsored by the Texas A&M main campus library, some limited local authority work, database cleanup/management, and online training from AMIGOS covering OCLC Connexion software.  Familiarity gained with LC ClassWeb and Cataloger’s Desktop.

Assisting Technical Services Manager (Librarian) Poom S. Taylor with copy-cataloging processes as needed, learning the local database and becoming more familiar with DDC22 classification scheme.

 

January 2005 to October 2005

Menil Collection Library ( http://www.menil.org )

Houston, Texas

 

Assisted the Menil Museum assistant librarian, Ms. Stephanie Capps, with cataloging of art auction catalogs in a local database, reshelving books, provided general assistance to patrons of this closed-stack art library, such as retrieving books, or making alternative suggestions if the desired book was not available.  Assisted the collection archivist with a German—>English translation project, recording basic bibliographic information for selected archival materials for the purpose of creating usable finding aids to these materials.  Limited Copy-cataloging using MARCIVE, assisting the resident cataloger with a cataloging backlog to create MARC records of existing card-based records, for eventual transfer to a future ILS, not yet implemented.

Hirsch Library, Museum of Fine Arts Houston

Library volunteer work, including re-shelving books, keeping periodicals straightened and in proper chronological order, filing materials in proper order in the vertical file and correcting any filing mistakes discovered, and other assorted tasks.  Volunteered as an usher for the 2005 ARLIS/NA convention in downtown Houston under the sponsorship of MFAH.

 

 

Library Graduate Student Practicum in Tech Services (Cataloging)

September 2004 through December 2004

Fondren Library; Rice University

Houston, Texas

 

Performed original and advanced copy-cataloging in an Academic Library setting, under the immediate supervision of the Senior Original Cataloger, approved and overseen by the head of the Technical Services Department.  Major emphasis on Foreign language monographs, especially German materials, usually involving enhancement of minimal level vendor records from Harassowitz.  Experience gained using MARC21, OCLC Passport, & SIRSI ILS.  Further familiarity gained with AACR2, LC Classification system, and LC Subject Headings.  Finding suitable LCSH and LC Classification numbers for German-language materials was a particularly gratifying intellectual exercise.

 

 

Library Assistant I (part-time)

September 2002 through April 2004

Willis Library, General Reserves Desk

University of North Texas Libraries

Main duty was as circulation clerk for the General Reserves Desk, assisting patrons with locating and checking out/in course reserves items, and some limited circulation items such as  Business Reference tools and Software.  Served as nearest service public service point for Current Periodicals and provided limited Reference assistance for said materials, and directing the query to the actual Reference Desk when needed.  Processed Library discards, prepared ILL materials for outbound shipment, delivered and received Library US mail, then sorted and delivered incoming ILL materials to that department which were received in the general mail delivery.  Kept newspaper collection orderly and assisted patrons with library-use-only newspaper circulation.
