Answered the telephone and properly directed departmental inquiries to the correct personnel.  Responsible for photocopy jobs from faculty and staff, guarding the security of test materials, etc.  In charge of the departmental campus mail run, and other campus errands.

 

Travel Assistance Coordinator

1998-2001; May 2004 until October 2005; May 2005 until Present.

 

Provided real time 24-hour telephone customer support to travel insurance policyholders worldwide needing to utilize their medical evacuation and other benefits while traveling.  Responsible chiefly for organizing and executing emergency medical evacuations for policyholders at the direction of the AIG Medical Staff.  Provided clinic and doctor referrals as needed, advised North American travelers of the nearest US or Canadian Embassy locations in the country they were calling from.  Provided German-language voice interpretation and some German—>English document translation for the Medical Department and Claims Department respectively as needed.  Occasional use of Spanish and Russian skills when the primary speakers of those languages on staff were unavailable.

Taught all levels of High School German at Friendswood High School, from Beginner to Advanced students.  Responsible for other basic teaching duties, such as homeroom, parent-teacher conferences, attending professional development seminars, including a conference for Texas Foreign Languages Teachers in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1998.  Left the position to pursue a job opportunity using foreign language skills in the private sector (see above).

Fulfilled teaching responsibilities as required by my Rice University Graduate Fellowship, including teaching my own section of GERM 101 to Rice undergraduate students.  Graded professor’s tests, sat office hours for students needing help with German courses; Served as in-class assistant for professors when attending mixed classes with undergraduates and graduate students.  Conducted basic library research for professors and myself.  Attended relevant academic conferences at Rice University, University of Houston, and Texas A&M University, as a graduate student representative of Rice University.
