FD 2009 was held at the Civil
Air Patrol Building at the Hazard Regional Airport, halfway between
Hazard and Jackson. Fifteen members of the club enjoyed
operating 3A, the fellowship, and some great food.
The HF bands cooperated as they haven't in recent years, and contacts
were made on 80-10 meters. Modes included digital (PSK-31),
phone, and CW. The members used their usual ingenuity in
putting up dipoles, verticals, and a twenty meter rotateable dipole
made from 2 Hamstick mobile quarter waves. The usual
fiberglass "sticks" were much in evidence in the antenna deployment.
There was some experimentation with CW Type and CW Get on the digital
station to help pick out the calls. Although the ear can't be
beaten when it comes right down to it, the CW Get program helped
increase recognition speed somewhat.
Below are some pictures of the event.
KE4OZR, David, operates, while KI4VJB, Charlie, looks
on.

KF4GQR, Reda, operates PSK-31 on 20 meters.

KA4AOU, Jim, watches (catnaps?) as KJ4FJM, Trevor, works
'em
on 75 meters.

David, KE4OZR, and Mitch, KI4FGF work hf on two bands.
Very little interference occurred between stations.

Morris, WB4NZS, and Matt, KR4WI, try to figure out how Reda
operated on PSK-31 so easily.

The sun starts to go down on another Field Day at the phone station.
