MORSE CODE

Several members have suggested getting together and having code practice. We have yet to formalize that, but just for starters, lets look at the basics here. For the purpose of verbalizing cw, consider
the following:

" . " this is dit.

The letter E is pronounced dit The letter I is pronounced didit. Notice that the "t" appears only at
the end.

" _ " this is dah

The letter "R" is pronounced didahdit. That's it. Apply this to the rest of the letters and numerals and
you are just about done. We will look at punctuation and prosigns next month.
You can build your code skills the same way that you can build your financial investments. Put something in each month. In the case of cw, put a small amount in each day. "Interest" compounds.( In the case of cw, interest = enthusiasm).

Get your code practice oscillator and practice making dits. Make them as short as you can. Send H, didididit. Don't count the dits! Don't count dahs either! Go for the sound.

CW really is fun. Give it a try.

Don't forget the meeting at Caruso's on Monday, November 5, at 2300Z, 6:00 pm EST. We don't let business get in the way of fun eyeball QSO's.

THE IRON PYRITE DIGGER'S NET

Thanks for the increasing support for the new net. We will try to make it a fun net, but work in some serious message handling practice too. Join in on Thursdays at 0130Z, 8:30pm EST. Read up on the formal
message handling protocol and send a message for practice.
