Big Flu Shot Clinic - Johnson City

We will do a big flu shot clinic in cooperation with the Department of State Health Services from 9 to 12 on Wednesday, October 21, in the main room of the Activity Building of the First United Methodist Church in Johnson City. (There will be one in Blanco, too, but I don't know when.) You do not need to register in advance or schedule your shot...it will be open to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis.

A large crowd is expected, so we'll need lots of our trained volunteers, even if only for an hour. You need the experience of being in a shot clinic anyway. Please call George Barnette to put yourself on the POD-trained volunteer schedule: 713-252-2288.

At this time, they plan to have adult and children's doses of REGULAR SEASONAL FLU VACCINE ONLY for this shot clinic. Doing H1N1 swine flu vaccine at the same time would make sense, but that is handled by a different part of DSHS and they march to the beat of their own drummer. We are told that part is being arranged through the county judge.

As always, volunteers get their shots free. If you are a Medicare client, they ask that you fill out the Medicare form so they can recover the cost from the government. Otherwise, they ask for $10 for the flu shot. People who cannot afford the $10 will receive theirs free.

Staff will also be available after lunch from 1 to 3 to do other immunizations, such as tetanus, pneumonia, etc. If time permits, some of those other shots may be given during the morning clinic. To make sure they'll have the other vaccine you want, to get the cost of other vaccines, or to book a specific shot time in the afternoon, contact Dorothy Dawson at the DSHS directly at 830-693-8424.

More details to come as plans are confirmed or as changes occur. Meanwhile, tell your friends and spread the word.
