Dear Class Members,                                                                       Jan 13, 2010

I'm forwarding an e-mail I got from Church World Service - that's the parent organization of CROP Walk. It has a site to make on-line donations if you're interested in helping with the Haitian earthquake disaster. Additionally, you can visit the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) web site, and they have a place to donate also. Advance number is listed below. You can make out checks to the church and put this advance number in the "for" line and the church can send directly to UMCOR. I know you will all be in prayer for this country and its peoples. We have a team from Manchaca UMC who has planned to go in two weeks on a mission trip. Not sure if they'll be able to get in now or not.

Thanks!

Nancy and Mike McD

Subject: Haiti earthquake response: Please help!

A message from Church World Service

Dear Nancy/Mike,

If there is a place on Earth that could have done without an earthquake right now, it’s Haiti.

A 7.0-magnitude quake struck Haiti Tuesday, shattering buildings and forever changing lives.  While authorities still don’t know the extent of the damage, it is estimated that 3 million people may be affected by Haiti’s worst earthquake in 200 years.  One survivor reports there are thousands of people roaming the streets, looking for shelter.

Haiti is already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 8 out of 10 people living in extreme poverty.  It’s a place where many in the world have turned their backs. But not Church World Service.

Now, a massive earthquake has hit this already vulnerable island nation, and the needs there are greater than ever before.  PLEASE DONATE NOW.

CWS has an established presence in Haiti, with our partners Service Chretien d´Haiti, Christian Aid, SKDE and the Ecumenical Foundation for Peace and Justice.  EFPJ’s House of Hope is a day school CWS supports in Port au Prince.  Preliminary information indicates the school is damaged, and staff are trying to determine the well-being of their colleagues and the children.

We’re working to help our partners in this time of urgent need--will you take a moment to make this work possible?

You make it all happen.

Please donate now!

Please stay tuned for more information and updates on the CWS response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti.  And, join us in praying for the people affected by this earthquake.
