  F.Y.I.

“Finding and Welcoming Families for Faith” workshop: Is your church blessed with the sounds of youthful voices during worship? Is your nursery full of joyful and busy children? Are the children and young families in your community learning about God through your faithful outreach? If not, or if you’d like to reach more folks, consider sending a team to the “Finding and Welcoming Families for Faith” workshop presented by Rev. Nancy McDougall. This program is designed especially for the churches of the Kerrville District.

There will be two opportunities to attend: Saturday, October 18th at Lutie Watkins UMC in Llano and again on Sat. November 15th at Hondo UMC. Both workshops begin at 9:30 am and end by 2:30 pm. Lunch will be available at a nominal cost. The workshop is being sponsored by the Kerrville District Office and is offered at no charge to participants. If you’ve been praying for help in reaching young families in your community, we think this opportunity will be very helpful to you. We have also planned follow-up workshops in 2009 on “Forming and Firming Families of Faith” once you get them. Watch for further details! To reserve a space, call or e-mail the district office at 830-896-6400. For specific questions about the workshop, contact Nancy McDougall at nancymcd@nctv.com or 325-388-3752.

New Fountain UMC will be celebrating its 150th anniversary on Saturday, October 18. We look forward to seeing friends of New Fountain and relatives of former pastors and/or members. The morning program beginning at 11:00, will feature a time of reminiscing by former pastors and a service of Holy Communion in the sanctuary. A complimentary sausage barbecue plate will be served at noon.  (We would appreciate an RSVP by October 12 to newfountainumc@mecwb.com or 830-426-4219). The afternoon program will be from 1:15 till 2:30 in the Fountain of Life Center. The church history book “Precious Memories” has been compiled for this occasion and is available for $25.00 per copy.

Sermon Starters??
Interested in exchanging sermon ideas?  Right after our next District Professionals, Rev. Grady Roe is willing to coordinate a discussion about upcoming lectionary texts. Here's how it works.  You let him know you are interested by sending an email to:  roetherev@yahoo.com .  Put 'lectionary' in the subject line, (or if you can't spell 'lectionary' put  'sermon.').  He assigns a text to each person.  The group meets after lunch, and each person spends 5 or 6 minutes describing possible preaching points, then on to the next.

I'll Trade You One "Daniel" For....
Highland Lakes UMC has three Beth Moore studies they are willing to temporarily trade to another church in return for the loan of a different Beth Moore study.  They have"  "Daniel" and/or "Jesus, The One and Only, and/or "Breaking Free."   (They also have some DVD's of Rev. Grady Roe's sermons for sale, but those are so outstanding, you can't afford them). Anyway, if you want to exchange one Beth Moore for a different one, contact Trish Roe, 325.588.4187.

Kids Hope USA Mentoring program builds caring relationships...one child, one hours, one church and one school.  Our church (First United Methodist Church, Kerrville) has adopted Tom  Daniels Elementary school.  Kids Hope USA needs mentors and prayer partners for the new school year.  All it takes is one hour a week to change a child's life and it will change yours.  Some of these children don't have a loving adult in their lives, YOU CAN BE THAT ADULT.  Will YOU give hope to a child?  If you have a heart for children, please call Tina Box at 257-0802.

As some may know, June 2009 is the 50th anniversary of Lakehills UMC. There is a new page on their website (www.gbgm-umc.org/lakehillsumc) that is taken from their history books as to help remind folks of where their church started and maybe help to plan where their future lies.

Utopia UMC has a new study to begin in October, “Why we are Methodist…what we believe”
New roof on church completed with copies of shingles from time church was built in 1800’s
Completion work has begun on 60 foot labyrinth that can be used by public. This has been an Eagle Scout project by a local scout and is (as far as we can determine) the first labyrinth in the United States selected by a scout in order to meet the eagle requirements.
