Planning Your Wedding Reception
- Pick a date. Most families do it a year in advance, but sometimes
it can be done in a little less than 8 weeks with a bit of luck
and a lot of help!
- Call the Kimmel Event Center to book that date.
- Schedule an appointment to tour the facility, discuss the rules and
regulations, and do the necessary paperwork. We have a portfolio of
pictures and suggestions for tables, set up, flowers, cakes, etc.
- Call and book a caterer, cake person, florist, alcohol provider, DJ
or band, and the photographer.
- Decide on your theme or colors. Get those clothes ordered.
Off-the-rack dresses can be just as lovely as those that take 6 months
of order time.
- Dont feel bad if youre not Martha Stewart. Simple table
decorations can be as lovely as those that take months to complete.
- Realize that life isnt perfect. You cant expect everything
on your wedding day to be perfect either. Its those little snafus
that make for great stories on your 25th wedding anniversary.
- When youre feeling really stressed (usually at about the time
you are trying to produce that wedding program at midnight after
the rehearsal dinner), try to remember that the marriage is the important
thing, not the trappings.
- Talk to your friends, find out their advice let their experiences
be your teachers.
- Do only what you can afford. Local caterers do a wonderful job of
putting on a filling, attractive meal for about what you would spend
at a local fast food outlet. People dont mind paying
for their own drinks and everybody is probably a lot safer on
the way home if the bar doesnt serve free drinks all
night.
- Finally, be kind to Mom and Dad its hard to see ones
children grow up and become independent adults when all we can remember
is the scraped knees that we attended to only yesterday!
