Loaves and Fishes Food Bank keeps statistical records on the services we provide. We distribute the commodities according to United States Department of Agriculture and the Office of Human Concern guidelines.
In 2011 we saw an increase of 9 % in total household visits to the food bank. The following numbers represent the yearly totals of all discreet allotments. We averaged serving 684 households per month; however, most of the increase came in the second half of the year. Over the course of the year 1,774 different Carroll County, Arkansas households sought food. Households may seek assistance once each month, but the average number of visits household was 4.6 in 2011. The poundage listed is for salvage and donated foods only. We do not weigh the commodity foods as they are distributed. This past year we began receiving salvage foods at our local Wal-Mart Super Center through an arrangement with Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, a regional distribution center. This greatly increased the pounds that we could distribute plus it gave us fresh fruits and vegetables.
In 2011 we also distributed for Project Self-Esteem 510 new backpacks filled with school supplies to clients' school children the month school began.
