Way back in June the entire area was hit by a lengthy hail storm. It was a very busy year for contractors and it seemed as though everyone in the county got a new roof. The insurance paid off and we were awarded enough money to upgrade to metal.

On the 18th a local contractor started on our new roof (see July 2009).
|
|
The following week they replaced the decking around the edges where it had rotted (apparently because of an improper installation of the previous roof). They put down felt (tar paper) so that the roof wouldn’t leak until the metal arrived. It’s a good thing, too, because a winter storm blew in on Christmas Eve.

We woke up to a White Christmas! Well, a White-ish Christmas.

Once Christmas and the winter storms had passed, the contractor returned to continue the project. They made two loads in a trailer to haul off the shingles that had been removed. They also demolished the old awning. The house looked a little naked without it, but when I got home from work on New Year's Eve, we had a new one.
