| Once upon a time (about
50 years ago), there were people in the Sinking Creek area that wanted a
church where they could worship God in the "ole time
Methodist" way.
Someone
contacted Miss McConnell in Jackson, Breathitt and asked her to send a
pastor. After much prayer and consideration, Miss McConnell sent
Reverend Lester Lockard and his wife, Lingle. They ministered for a time
in the old Sunny Brook School house on Sinking Creek.
God blessed with a gracious revival with Rev.
Marvin Wheeler as evangelist. The people wanted to continue worshipping
together and so the London Community Church was born.
Alice Middleton, the Aunt of Moss and Pearl
Jones gave the land. Several others donated cash, logs and sawmill labor
for making lumber. Many others labored tirelessly until the church
basement was finished. By this time, Reverend Carl Faulkner and wife,
Sophie, and daughter Rachel came to pastor the church. Services were
held in the church basement until the upstairs sanctuary was finished in
1954.
The basement apartment of the church was the
home of each successive pastor until 1973.
Delmer has been Pastor of London Community
Church for 39 years. He has been faithfully assisted by his lovely
wife Yvonne. They have three children Paul, Susie, and Cheryl.
The Lord has blessed and we appreciate the many
who have become faithful members of our church. Our pastor has
been a man with a vision for the church. He has labored along with
others to repair, remodel and build on the church properties and the
church has grown through his influence and ministry in the church and
community.
