| Which is the only regular binding (of the 14) to not boast a first edition title? (Submitted by Scot Kamins) Answer: Binding # 10. This was not a planned binding type, rather the result of a transition between bindings. According to Barry Neavill: "When new dies for stamping the spine were introduced (binding 11 for example) reprints of many older titles continued to appear with the earlier spine until new dies could be cut for them -- resulting in binding 10 that combined the old spine with the new logo on the front cover." Thus, no new title would be in a #10 binding... an earlier #8 spine did not exist for it! |
