Spybot Installation

If you change/remove/corrupt something up on your computer or router or equipment and someone has to fix it or replace it for you and charge you money/services/beer for fixing it then it's your responsibility not mine nor is it Alltel/Windstream's or your ISP's or anyone else's. I give you the information that I have learned/found/acquired. What you do with it is up to you. Do not email me with questions or complaints about why your router/computer/equipment/etc. doesn't work. I cannot guarantee that this config or these settings or information on this site will work for everyone. I can't test all solutions possible because I don't know them all and there are not enough hours in the day/week/month/year for me to test every combination possible. I have tested/used these configurations/software and they work for me. I am just letting my findings be open to help others in times of need at no cost. If you do not understand these instructions/configurations/software or are afraid that you will mess up the computer/router/equipment/software then you will want to contact a computer/network technician to help fix/configure/build what you need done.

Once you have downloaded Spybot, locate the directory where you downloaded it to and double click on the Spybot executable installation file. Now you should see Spybot's installation start up. Choose english as your language and click the OK button.
You will now be prompted to close all running programs. Once you have done that then click on the Next button.
Next is the license agreement, choose "I accept the agreement" then click the Next button.
Now you will be asked which directory you want to install Spybot, just leave the default entry in there and click on the Next button.
For the installation type just leave it on "Full installaton" then click on the Next button.
For the Start menu folder just leave it as Spybot Search & Destroy then click on the Next button.
When prompted for additional tasks, make sure to select "Use system settings protection (Tea Timer)" This will make Spybot more proactive about stopping spyware before it gets on the computer. Once this has been selected click on the Next button.
Now you will be presented with a summary of all the selections made, now go ahead and click the Install button.
Spybot will now begin installing on to your computer.
The installation is now complete, make sure that both "Run SpybotSD.exe" and "Run TeaTimer.exe" are both checked then click on the Finish button.
Spybot will now give you a "Legal Agreement" warning. Basically it's telling you that some programs require that they have their spyware installed on the computer.. If you have Spybot remove the spyware it may render that program un-usable. Either check the "Don't show this message again" and click the OK button or just click on the OK button if you want the message to display every time on Spybot startup.
Spybot will now give you the option to save a backup of your registry. This is a good idea incase some spyware kills your internet connection. Spybot will be able to restore your registry settings that it saves at this moment in time. Just click on the "Create registry backup" button.
Backing up the registry may take a minute or two. Once this is complete click on the Next button.
Now Spybot will prompt to do updates. Just click on the "Search for updates" button.
Once Spybot has found all it's updates then click on the "Download all available updates" button.
After Spybot is done downloading and installing all of it's updates it will restart itself and you'll get the warning message again. Just put a check in the "Don't show this message again" and then click on the OK button.
