Organization of the Shelby Guards 
Hillsboro, Shelby County, Alabama
November 15, 1860
 
We the undersigned subscribers having organized ourselves into a
cavalry company humbly petition your Excellency to grant us
commissions for our elected officers and arms suitable for our
equipment in conformity with an Act of the Legislature passed at the
session of 1859 & 1860. Said company named and known as the Shelby
Guards.
