Mel's Fiction
This page contains my very own fiction, including short stories and excerpts from novels I've written. If you like my stuff, perhaps you'd like to visit my page devoted to other Writers (link later) who influenced me. Or, you may be interested in my Writers Resources page (link later).
My current project: "Escape From the Planet Justice" - currently completing the 2nd draft - up through chapter 5.

Escape From the Planet Justice - Chapter 2
My first finished project: "The Silver Lining." - 2nd draft complete and ready to submit for publishing.
This 14 chapter 400+ page book is about angels interacting with mortals. Fulfilling earthly assignments and battling spiritual foes, one learns what it takes to be an angel. Here are the first three chapters.
The Silver Lining - Chapter 1 - The principal earthly characters are introduced.
The Silver Lining - Chapter 2 - We see a bit of heaven.
The Silver Lining - Chapter 3 - Heaven meets earth.
Project in waiting: This is a joint effort. My friend, DK, created a superhero, and he asked me to write the first book telling his story. This excerpt is the first chapter. Until we get the book published, I'm changing the names of DK's characters to protect their identities. (Isn't that funny? - protecting the identities of super heroes!)
Super Hero - Chapter 1 First Draft
Actuarial Humor: I wrote these short stories for the Society of Actuaries' 7th and 8th Speculative Fiction Contests.
Sam McAtry P.I. - Read and laugh as this actuary turns detective. Though this story didn't win an award, it may have helped inspire the contest runners to create a funniest story category for next year.
A Turn-screw tlhImqaH - Where "A Clockwork Orange" meets "Star Trek". Read and find out what happens!
