A Turn-screw thlImqaH – Glossary (in order of appearance)

 

All of these Klingon words (except one) appear in the official Klingon Dictionary, compiled by Marc Okrand.

 

tlhImqaH – (pronounced zilm’kach) – an orange fruit served in sections. Note: this is the only non-official word in the story. The official dictionary had very little food-specific language – especially with fruits. I had to resort to “canonical” fiction. You can google the word for more information.

 

juppu’wI’ = jup (friend) + pu’ (plural) + wI’ (my) = My Friends

 

qoHHom = qoH (fool) + Hom (diminutive) = Stupid Fool

 

ja’wI’nap = ja’ (tell) + wI’ (person who) + nap (simple) = Humble Narrator

 

va = explicative – general invective (meaning unknown), short for Qu’vatlh (below)

 

Qapla’ = Success!! Note: This is the best-known Klingon word of all time. All Trekkies must know this one by heart.

 

puq = child, offspring

 

nuqjatlh = what did you say? huh? what? (excl)

 

baQa’ = another general invective (meaning unknown)

 

loD = male, man

 

qoHHompu’ = qoHHom + pu’ (plural) = Stupid Fools

 

nuq = what?, short for nuqjatlh

 

ghay’cha’ = another general invective (meaning unknown)

 

Qu’vatlh = another general invective – probably the strongest.

 

wa', cha’, wej, loS, vagh, jav, Soch = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

 

Other non-Klingon references:

 

Kobayashi Maru – a well-known Starfleet simulation depicting a no-win situation. Captain Kirk beat this simulation by reprogramming it prior to taking the test.

 

Nanu-nanu – a greeting uttered by Mork from Ork – having nothing to do with Star Trek.
