A Feist is a small, short-haired, terrier-like hunting dog. There are currently 3 varieties recognized by the U.K.C. They are alert, intellegent little dogs, ranging from 12 to 30 lbs. Feists and Curs are similiar, most Curs being over 30 lbs. in weight and tending to have a bit more hound-type charachteristics than the more Terrier-like Feists. Our Feists are Treeing Feists.

A Feist is a tenacious little dog, not a belligerant trouble maker by any means, but very bold and courageous. Unlike most Terriers, they have a very strong packing instinct, as do hounds, and several will generally stick close together. Feists are very useful farm dogs, avidly hunting and killing rodents. They are also exceptional treedogs and are very popular for squirrel hunting. Feists come in all colors and patterns.
The Feist breeds are descended from the terriers brought over by English miners and other working class immigrants. These terriers probably included crosses between the Smooth Fox Terrier, the Manchester Terrier and the now extinct white English Terrier. Some of these dogs were crossed with Whippets or Italian Greyhounds (for speed) and Beagles (for hunting ability). Eventually, these tough little terriers evolved into today’s squirrel hunting Feists. (From UKC homepage at http://www.ukcdogs.com)
The Feist is NOT an A.K.C. recognized breed. They are registered through the National Kennel Club. (N.K.C.) and now, the United Kennel Club (U.K.C.) as well.
A Feist can also be a wonderful pet. They are extremely outgoing and friendly with visitors, but they do bark when people show up. And they sound BIG! Unseen, a 12 lb. Feists gives the impression of a 50 lb dog barking! Properly raised and socialized, they are exceptional with children. Feists are very clean and easily trained. Although they can be a bit hard-headed about some things, firm but gentle training and consistant discipline bring exceptional results. I have found them to be extremely trainable. Ours have all been reliably housetrained prior to 4 months of age. We have also taken 7 (Teeny-Bit, Rowdy, Tawny, Merry, Dot, Tux and Slick) to the A.K.C. Canine Good Citizenship test and all seven have passed. Few had ever even been trained to walk on a leash more than 24 hours before the tests!
These little girls all tree and bay as well as being obedient and social. They range in size from 10.2 to 22 pounds, and they are perfect examples that good hunting dogs can also be pampered pets. And they ARE pampered pets, and wonderful companions, both in the woods and at home.

Some Of Our Pups;
We have some very high hopes for our 2 young pups out of Justa Teeny-Bit Tawny CGC HIC (Tawny), and sired by Sable's sire, Super Gr.Sq.Ch. Tr. CH.Super Gr.Ch.Gr.Nt.Ch. Kovac's Amazing Copper.
We are so impressed with these little pups and have had so much interest, that we bred Merry, Tawny's litter-sister, to Copper's son, Ch. Amazing Shamrock in April of 2,002. We only had one pup, W.W. Amazing Joy. .
And some more of our promising pups...
Congratulations to Rector's Teeny-Bit CGC HIC TT for being the first Feist to earn her TT
from the American Temperament Testing Society (ATTS)! This makes her the FIRST Feist to earn
a CGC, the FIRST Feist to earn a HIC AND the FIRST Feist to earn a TT! We are proud of our
spoiled little girl!

We do not breed many Feists, but we usually have a puppy or two available. It is alot of fun to watch them play and hunt.
***In July of 2000, I puchased a very promising young puppy, Amazing Sable CGC HIC, from Amazing Curs in House Spings, MO. Sable is sired by Super Gr. Nt. Ch .Super Gr. Sq. Ch. Gr. Ch. Kovac's Amazing Copper and out of Super Gr. Ch. Super Gr. Sq. Ch. Gr. Nt. Ch. Tr. Ch. Kovac's Amazing Grace. This line of dogs excels both in the woods and on the show bench. Sable is an alert, intellegent black brindle Treeing Cur puppy with charisma, presence and quite a voice! We had waited a long time for the right pup from this line and we are very excited about her! At only 4 & 1/2 months of age, Sable was entered in her first treeing competition and won first place w/ 66 barks in 30 seconds! She was locating and treeing by herself at only 5 months, earned her CGC at 6 months, and at only 11 months she is already competing well in squirrel hunts. She has earned 40 of the 100 points needed for her N.K.C. Bench Championship, with 2 First in Class and 1 Best of Breed in only 2 events. Sable has also earned 35 of the 100 points needed for her U.K.C. Bench Championship in only 1 event, winning first in her class, Best of Breed and Best Overall in Show her first time out.
Because Feists and Curs are technically different breeds (although crosses are common and eligible for registration), we have set up a separate page for Sable and Treeing Cur information. CH. W.W. Amazing Surge HIC CGC, W.W. Amazing Brandy HIC CGC, W.W. Amazing Elvira, W.W. Amazing Ginger, W.W. Amazing Sandy and W.W. Amazing Jet are excellent examples of such a cross. They are out of our W.W. Justa Teeny-Bit Tawny CGC HIC and are sired by Super Gr. Nt. Ch. Super Gr. Sq. Ch. Gr. Ch. Kovac's Amazing Copper. For more information on Treeing Curs and for more pictures of Sable go to Sable's page. For more info and pictures concerning our Tawny/Copper pups mentioned above, Click here.
